Gastritis


Gastritis is an inflammation of the gastric mucosa.
Types of gastritis:
1.Acute
2.Chronic
3.Special(allergic,viral,parasitic,etc)

1.Acute gastritis:is erosive or haemorrhagic.
Causes:
-heavy use of drugs as nonsteroidal anti-inflamamatory drugs,cytotoxic drugs and cortisone.
-alcoholism
-cigarette smoking
-uraemia
-systemic infection(salmonellosis)
-severe stress,ischemic and shock
-chemical irritation by strong alkalias and acids
-mechanical trauma as during endoscopic examination

2.Chronic gastritis:Chronic mucosal inflammatory changes leading eventually to mucosal atrophy and ephithelial metaplasia or dysplasia which may be complicated by carcinoma.
Causes:
-immunologic associated with pernicious anemia
-alcoholism and cigarettes smoking
-chronic Helicobacter pylori infection
-irradiation
-post-operative
